Sometimes she finds it difficult to fit in at Boarding School but luckily she can escape to the magic world of Centopia. To get to Centopia and back to the real world she needs her special bracelet. In Centopia she transforms into an Elf and can speak to Unicorns! This helps her in facing the responsibility thrust upon her: guarding the Unicorns of Centopia.

Yuko is a beautiful Elven warrior and one of the best warriors in the kingdom. She is brave and cocky and takes Mia "under her wings" to teach her how to fly and fight. They grow a strong friendship, but also compete against each other for Mo´s affection.

Prince Mo is the son of the Elven King Raynor and he aspires to become a wise leader just like him. He is a dashing Elven warrior with outstanding fighting abilities and takes his responsibilities as sworn protector of the Unicorns very seriously.

Phuddle is the complete opposite of all the other Pans in Centopia, who fill the air with sweet music. He is such a bad flutist that he was kicked out of Pan society. He is a big talker and considers himself the "greatest inventor ever". Although they never work as expected, his inventions can always be used for something else.

Onchao has grown into a reliable member of the hero-team. He is not only special because he can fly but also because of his golden horn, whose glow signifies its enourmous power and can get hot as fire. He also got a beautiful blue feather from Ono, his father.

Kyara is Onchao´s little sister and also has wings and a golden horn, with which she can restore dead plants and even the most barren ground of Centopia.

Lyria and Ono are the parents of Onchao and Kyara. Ono is the long-lost King of the Unicorns and he can fly like Onchao and Kyara. Since Ono married Lyria, he became the leader of the Ferngrass herd. Lyria is a proud and regal Unicorn. She was the first Unicorn that Mia met when she entered Centopia, and they developed a special relationship.

The Element Unicorns are huge creatures that maintain the elements of life and are guardians of the balance of nature in Centopia. The Earth Unicorn lives in the North of Centopia in a cave deep under the earth. By stamping her hooves, she can create mountains, trigger earthquakes and create tunnels. The Water Unicorn is half unicorn, half fish and lives in the grotto where Onchao and Kyara were born. The Fire Unicorn lives in a cave inside the Volcano of Centopia. He can shoot a ring of fire from its horn. The Wind Unicorn rules the skies of Centopia, soaring along a whirlwind. She can make clouds appear from nowhere or cause storms.

Onos best friends are the Ice Unicorn, the Star Unicorn, the Crystal Unicorn and the Stone Unicorn. The Ice Unicorn lives at a secret island north of the northest tip of the North Horn. Wherever he appears, there grow ice bergs and water freezes. His tears immediately transform into icicles. When the Star Unicorn gallops across the night sky, she leaves a starry trail behind her – which looks like a shooting star when seen from Centopia. Her coat is covered with star dust and looks like a clear starry night sky. The Crystal Unicorn lives in the Crystal Grotto. She can grow beautiful and big crystals. Her mane and coat are made of crystals that glow in the dark. Nothing can harm the Stone Unicorn, but it’s therefor much slower than other Unicorns. He can melt with the stone and walk through it. He can also move stones with the power of thought.

Garnivera lives with her daughter Flair on Rainbow Island. It's a surreal, colourful place, where it turns out that Unicorns can speak! Garnivera loves to linger, listening to the soft murmuring of the Rainbow spring’s water. Flair's beautiful mane looks just like a rainbow, fluttering like a flag in the wind when she trots around. With her horn she creates bubbles in a pond on Rainbow Island. The bubbles then rise up, shimmering in all rainbow colors before they burst. From the very first moment they met, Flair and Onchao became friends.

Zealanders are a tough and wild bunch, owing to the inhospitable land they come from. Wingless, they are used to long treks to survive, so don‘t tire or quit easily. Riok is strong and sturdy, able to hold his own in battle despite not having wings. Duna is to Riok what Onchao is to Mia: his loyal companion, no matter the situation. Zealand unicorns are a little more ornery than their mainland kin, but Duna makes the tough, stubborn strong-willed thing work to her advantage: she may not be the fastest and may not be able to fly...but when you need something done, Duna will get it done. Jojo is a Zottel foal, and like the elder Duna, has a strong personality. But Jojo's interests are less straightforward, and trend more toward adventure and odd life choices...like befriending Gargona. Ena is a young Zealand Elf with the sweetest smile and a very strong attachment to Mo. And since she can't walk, and has separation anxiety, that means Mo has to carry her around quite a lot.

The two villains Gargona and Dax are on a mission for Lord Drakon, the leader of the dark elves. They are to bring him the golden horn of a unicorn. The two of them argue all the time, and so far they have always been outwitted and chased away by the elves. But Gargona always ends up back on the main island. If she finally brings Lord Drakon a golden horn, she will be allowed to return to Dystopia, the realm of the dark elves. Dax is the leader of the Hopper Army. The little eavesdropping beetles also tell him everything they observe in Centopia.
